School Council

Our School Council are an important part of school life here at Rode Heath Primary School.  Each year, our children vote who they would like to represent their class on the school council.  The school council meet regularly to discuss issues within the school and ensure each class has a platform to voice their opinions.

Their main responsibilities include:

  • Collating ideas from each of their classes
  • Making sure children's voices and opinions throughout the school are listened to and where possible acted upon
  • Organising fund-raising activities
  • Hosting events and greeting important visitors
  • Advertising our events
  • Helping school leaders to make decisions like which teachers will work at our school
  • Meeting with Governors of our school to tell them what the children think

This year's school councillors are:

Myla & Leo                                    Year 2

Rapha & Chloe M                            Year 3

Livvy & George                                Year 4

Kamani & Isla H                               Year 5

Scarlett, Kayandra, Dylan & Hattie       Year 6

What do we do in the meetings?

Each councillor meets with their own class to discuss ideas about changes and improvements to the school.  These are then raised in the school council meetings with all of the other school councillors and they decide as a team how to move forward with these ideas.

Our school council work to celebrate so far ...

February 2024

Our School Councillors delivered a powerful assembly to raise awareness of Stranger Danger and the importance of being alert when out and about but also when online.  The team gave some good tips on positive communication with strangers and what to do when this becomes uncomfortable.

January 2024

Our school council team led our safeguarding assembly this month and the theme was Who Can I Talk to in School? - we discussed safe adults, how to identify a welcomed visitor, lanyards, ID badges and who we can talk to if we have a worry or problem.

December 2023

On Friday 8th December, we took part in our annual Christmas Jumper day but this year we decided to link this to the Dougie Mac Christmas Jumper Day to raise even more funds for a charity close to our pupils' hearts.

November 2023

Our school council team led their first whole school assembly last Friday.  The theme was all about keeping safe during Bonfire Night.  The children discussed bonfire and firework safety and what to do when they have finished with a sparkler.  They very ably answered questions from their audience including 'What should we do if a firework doesn't go off?'.  I am so very proud of every member of the team for showing the school value of teamwork when sharing out the presentation and for supporting one another during the presentation.  You spoke clearly and confidently.  We are looking forward to your next assembly.  Miss Moss

I didn't have to wait long for the next School Council assembly - they were so eager!  The team delivered our online safety assembly and shared some important tips on how to stay safe when on gaming platforms, how to know if you are really talking to a friend or a stranger and what to do if you are unsure.  Again, another great assembly!

September 2023

Our year 6 and year 5 councillors ably assisted by Leah from year 5 helped at our MacMillan Coffee Morning last week.  They were very welcoming towards the parents and helped to persuade them to stay for a coffee and piece of cake.  They talked to our visitors about the charity and what the money raised, is used for. They helped to set up and clear away and they even managed to 'test' the cake!  Thank you for all of your help, you were very polite and friendly to our visitors.  Our year 4 councillors assited by year 6 helped to sell the rest of the cakes at breaktime the following day and we are delighted to announce that in total we raised a whopping £353.07 for this wonderful charity!
