Our Policies and Procedures

Policies and procedures help to ensure a consistent approach on key aspects of school life. They allow teachers, staff, students and parents to know what is expected of them and help create a productive, safe learning environment for all.

Attendance Policy

Pupils and parents equally value the education that the school provides. This results in pupils’ high attendance which continues to be above that of other schools nationally.                                                        Ofsted May 2017

Good attendance is vital if pupils are to thrive and take full advantage of school life and achieve their potential. The school aims to achieve good attendance by operating an attendance policy within which staff, pupils, parents/carers, local community and the Education Welfare Service can work in partnership. The school monitors attendance and intervenes quickly if a problem is identified.

Behaviour Policy

Pupils’ behaviour is outstanding because of their exemplary conduct and their ability to maturely reflect on others’ points of view. There is a strong, unspoken bond of trust and expectation between staff and pupils when it comes to the standard of behaviour in school.

Our aim is that all pupils should be able to behave in a socially acceptable way, both inside and outside of school. We aim to create a learning environment where mutual respect is inherent and good behaviour is valued and rewarded.

Charging and Remissions Policy

All education during school hours is free.  However, to enrich the curriculum, other additional activities, sometimes off-site, are offered during the school day.  Voluntary contributions may be requested so that these can take place. Activities arranged outside of the school day may be charged for.

Complaints Policy

Our complaints policy and procedures have been agreed with: Cheshire East Association of Primary Heads, Cheshire East Association of Secondary Heads, Cheshire East Association of Special School Heads, Cheshire East Association of Governing Bodies and the relevant Diocesan Authorities. 

General principles underlying our policy and procedures are: that complaints are dealt with transparently and as quickly as is reasonably practicable, that complainants should be kept informed, except where matters are confidential, (e.g. in the case of a staff disciplinary process) and that every effort should be made to resolve complaints in a non-confrontational and informal way. 

Data Protection Policy inc GDPR 

All data collected about staff, pupils, parents and visitors is collected, stored and processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) 2018. This policy applies to all data, regardless of whether it is in paper or electronic format

This Policy refers to the Privacy Notices for the children and the workforce employed. 

Equality and Diversity

Rode Heath Primary School and the extended services are committed to valuing diversity by providing equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice for all children, their families and carers, and staff alike.

Healthy Eating Policy

We promote healthy eating and lead by example within Rode Heath Primary School and the extended services, where we provide healthy, nutritious and balanced food and drinks that are safely prepared with regard to the dietary and religious requirements of the children in our care. 

Intimate Care Policy

‘Intimate care’ covers any task that involves the washing, touching or carrying out a procedure to intimate personal areas and is associated with bodily functions and personal hygiene, including, toileting, washing, dressing, and menstrual care. Where necessary, staff will work in partnership with parents or carers to provide care appropriate to the needs of the individual child and together will produce a care plan. When providing intimate care we will ensure that the child’s safety, dignity and privacy are maintained at all times. Staff will always encourage children to do as much for themselves as they can. 

Mobile Phones and Digital Cameras Policy

Rode Heath Primary School and its extended services foster a ‘culture of safety’ in which the children and staff are protected from abuse, harm, and distress.  We therefore have a clear policy on the acceptable use of mobile phones and digital cameras that is understood and adhered to by everyone: staff, children and parents.

Safeguarding Policy

Pupils feel safe. They have a very good awareness of how to keep themselves safe, including when online, because of the teaching that they receive. Pupils feel confident that they can approach staff with any concerns because of the excellent relationships between adults and pupils within the school.

“Safeguarding” is an umbrella term encompassing the whole wellbeing of a child and recognises the importance of preventative measures. At Rode Heath the health and safety of all children is of paramount importance. Parents send their children to school each day with the expectation that school provides a secure environment in which their children can flourish. We have a wide range of measures in place to ensure that this expectation is the reality. Child Protection is also an important component of “safeguarding”.

Special Educational Needs Policy 

Pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities are supported well to make good progress from their starting points.                                                                                                                        Ofsted, May 2017 

All children, regardless of their ability, should be given every opportunity to reach their full potential in an inclusive, supportive environment which maximises self-esteem.  They should feel valued and respected within the school community. Our Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy details how Rode Heath School will do its best to ensure that the necessary provision is made for any pupil who has special educational needs.

Uncollected Child/ren Policy 

We endeavour to ensure that all children are collected by a parent or carer at the end of each school day / session. If a child is not collected, and the parent or carer has not notified us that they will be delayed, we follow set procedures. (Note that any penalty fees only apply to the extended services.)  

Visitors Policy

Rode Heath Primary School and the extended services are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for the children in our care. When we have visitors we need to ensure that this will not have a detrimental effect on the children and that the person in question has a valid reason for visiting our setting; when a visitor arrives we therefore follow a set procedure.
