Year 1 Home Learning 2019 - 2020

Miss Ward

Miss Ward

I have been teaching here at Rode Heath for 13 years now and the time has simply flown! Outside of school I enjoy walking, travelling and music, and have been known to dabble in a bit of baking (although my standards are a way off The Great British Bake Off!). Having recently moved to the countryside, I have also become the owner of the world's largest, and possibly hairiest dog, Claude.

I have been teaching at Rode Heath for twelve years now and I can’t believe how fast it has gone! I am very excited to be moving from Reception to Year One and spending another year with your wonderful little people.

As the school Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), I am also responsible for collaborating with the teachers, teaching assistants and parents to support children with additional needs. It is a really special role as I have the privilege of working with children in all year groups to support them on their learning journey.

Outside of school my two young children keep me very busy. We love exploring outside, painting and dancing around the living room!

I have been at Rode Heath for 7 years, supporting classes in both infants and juniors and have thoroughly enjoyed working with all the children. Part of my role has been sound and video technician in the sharing assemblies!!! :]]
In my spare time I am a team manager for a local swimming club and spend many weekends supporting my son in his swimming endeavours, which usually means a very early start!

To All in Year 1,

Please keep sharing what you have been up to by sending emails to our email address below.

We hope that you are all well and keeping busy during your time at home. We will keep updating the home learning challenges each week (see the bottom of this website for the daily challenges).  Although we recommend completing the challenges in order and one a day, it is entirely up to you how or when you complete these challenges.  If you want some extra work then the websites below are fantastic:

Remember to be kind and stay positive. We are looking forward to when we all meet up again.

Reading Books - If your child needs new reading books please send an email to to let us know.  We are now operating a no-contact book changing service (we leave new books in a named plastic bag outside the main entrance-we will text you when they are ready)  All we ask is that you return the books you already have at home, as you collect the new ones.

Finally, we would love to know what you are getting up to, what you are reading at the moment or how you have completed the challenges. Please send us an email if you can. If you send us any photographs, we can display these on our class web page for your friends to see.

See you all soon!
